After a great night out around the town you make your way to your vehicle as you are two steps away from your car; it happens, something that you will never forget an assailant comes from behind and proceeds to grab, grope, and rape you. What do you do? How do you protect yourself? What could you have done to prevent this from ever happening? But most importantly why you?

Rape is a crime of passion, filled with hatred, aggression, and anger. Rape encompasses many of deadly sins: lust, wrath, envy, jealously, and pride; all into one solo action. Many people are unaware of the statistics of rape especially in the Rio Grande valley. You see the best way to prevent the act of rape is to be educated and aware of it. It’s the uneducated and naïve that are struck with the incident happening to them. Many people believe it will never happen to them or don’t even know it’s happening around them, but it’s very sad to hear that rape is happening right now as we speak and great percentage of rape incidents are not even reported. You see rape does not just happen to women; men are also experiencing the horrific crime done to them. So it comes down to this one statement: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO EDUCATE AND PROTECT YOURSELF FROM A RAPE CRIME?

Valley Tudo has had the pleasure to sit in and view first hand on a rape prevention seminar that took place in the great city of Donna, Texas. The seminar took place at the First Baptist Church on 1009 Hester Avenue. The lead instructor was Able Gomez who along with his wife Brenda Gomez have created the “Lords Armor Total Combat System” which is to help spread the word of reality based self defense. Mr. Gomez holds back nothing when he teaches his seminars he simulates real life examples of rape incidents that have had happened before. He breaks down the rape prevention in many different subtopics such as: Truth About Rape, Criminal Psychology, Fear, Stalking, Abstract Contact, and Physical Contact (gross motor skills). Mr. Gomez makes it know that you don’t have to be strong or in shape to know how to protect yourself from an assailant. In fact he encourages that everyone come join his seminars so he everyone has the opportunity to protect themselves whether it be man, woman, or child. It matters not on age, size, or strength and that matters is the willing to learn and focus. Able creates a comfortable learning environment so every can feel at ease and retain everything he is teaching them. He recommends coming relax and calm and not to be timid or shy more questions the better. One fact he does state that most incidents happen in about 30 seconds and those are the most crucial 30 seconds. He takes you step by step to help you use your natural instincts plus other small techniques that will help you escape from your assailant.

At this church there is a program called “NARROW PATH OUTREACH” to help the community use martial arts and religion to help gain protection skills spiritually and physically.
